Corbin Strong Takes Second Place at GP Cycliste de Quebec
Corbin Strong showcased his strength and determination with an impressive second-place finish at the GP Cycliste de Quebec. This marked his first WorldTour podium in his debut participation at the challenging one-day race.
In a post-race interview, Strong expressed his conflicting emotions, stating, “I have been looking forward to this race all year.” While he was disappointed to narrowly miss out on the win, he was pleased with his result and confident that he will have more opportunities to contend for victory in the future.
IPT had a clear strategy to support Strong as the team leader in the uphill bunch sprint. Despite uncertainty about the race due to possible rain, the team successfully kept Strong out of trouble throughout the day and positioned him for the final sprint. Strong made an early move and pushed himself to the limit, stating, “I thought I’m not going to sit here and wait to be lucky and I needed to go if I want to win this.” Though he was unable to edge out Arnaud De Lie, Strong remained grateful for the support of his teammates, saying, “The boys did a great job on the last lap and I really have to thank them.“
For Strong, the opportunity to take on a leadership role at such an important race for the team was a challenge he eagerly embraced. Highlighting the importance of the race and the belief his team has in him, Strong stated, “I definitely had that pressure there but I saw that as a positive thing. The team believes in me and that’s really motivating for me.“
Sports Director Steve Bauer praised Strong and the team’s performance, stating, “Corbin deserves big accolades for a second place in his first time racing in Quebec. We set out with confidence that he could do a great sprint here. The team did a great job to put him in position and he finished it off.“
Strong was not the only IPT rider to achieve success at the race, as Guillaume Boivin finished as the best Canadian rider, supporting Strong throughout the day.
