Christophe Laporte Finishes Sixth at GP de Québec

Christophe Laporte of Team Jumbo-Visma put up a strong performance at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, finishing sixth in a fiercely contested sprint. Despite missing out on the podium, Laporte’s team expressed satisfaction with their overall performance.

“Christophe was feeling good, so we planned to sprint with him,” said sports director Frans Maassen. “Of course, you always want to win, but we rode a strong race. We can be happy with that.”

The race saw a handful of riders break away on the penultimate lap, leading to a loss of control in the peloton. Team Jumbo-Visma maintained a steady pace and relied on a well-executed sprint strategy. Defending champion Benoît Cosnefroy tried to disrupt the plans with an attack on the final lap but was eventually caught.

Laporte’s teammates, Sam Oomen and Tiesj Benoot, brought him to the front just in time for the sprint. The 30-year-old rider, who previously won Ghent-Wevelgem and Dwars voor Vlaanderen, unleashed a fierce sprint but had to settle for sixth place.

The race was won by Arnaud De Lie of Lotto Dstny, followed by Corbin Strong of Israel – Premier Tech in second place and Michael Matthews of Team Jayco AlUla in third place.

The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec is a one-day race in the UCI World Tour men’s calendar.
