Embark on an Extraordinary Journey: Exploring the Israel Bike Trail
The Israel Bike Trail, inspired by the renowned Israel National Trail, offers cyclists an unparalleled adventure through the diverse landscapes, wildlife, and historical sites of Israel. Spanning from Mount Meron in the North to Eilat in the South, the trail currently covers 420 kilometers and consists of eleven unique sectors. Just like the National Trail, the Bike Trail allows riders to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Israel.
The trail starts in Eilat, winding its way through the arid Negev desert and passing the breathtaking Ramon Crater before heading north toward Sde Boker. A new addition to the route is a 70-kilometer stretch from Arad to the Dead Sea, offering an exhilarating downhill ride through switchbacks and fast straight sections.
Once completed, the Israel Bike Trail will span over 1,200 kilometers and include 27 sectors, taking riders through the Old Town of Jerusalem, vibrant Tel Aviv, and the majestic Golan Heights in the North. The journey promises to be a monumental physical challenge but also a profound way to connect with the heart of Israel, one pedal stroke at a time.
Chris Froome, a renowned professional cyclist, experienced the beauty of Israel while exploring it on a bike. He said, “I think Israel just has so much to offer in terms of activities people can do. Just how diverse the country is in nature, in culture, and there are just so many different landscapes, like the Dead Sea where it’s completely dry and arid to up in the mountains and to the flat, all whilst mountain biking. It’s been an amazing experience.”
What sets the Israel Bike Trail apart is the attention to detail and efforts made by the builders to seamlessly integrate the trail into the landscape. Each kilometer is constructed using local materials, meticulously sourced and transported by hand. This environmentally conscious approach minimizes the trail’s impact on the surroundings and preserves the delicate balance of the natural reserves it traverses. As a result, the trail feels like a timeless path ingrained in the fabric of the landscape.
The Israel Bike Trail embodies the commitment of the Israel National Trail Project to the preservation of the natural world while offering a unique blend of adventure and exploration. It strikes a delicate balance between environmental conservation and tourism, allowing cyclists to experience Israel’s natural beauty like never before. Don’t miss out on this ultimate cycling adventure.
