Team Jumbo-Visma Finishes Fifth Stage of Vuelta a España Without Problems
Team Jumbo-Visma successfully completed the fifth stage of the Vuelta a España without any issues. The stage was similar to the previous day, with a single leader taking an early lead that was quickly caught on the day’s only climb. Sports director Grischa Niermann expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “The goal for the fifth stage was to reach the finish unscathed. We managed that; we got through the day in good shape.” Niermann also highlighted Wilco Kelderman’s recovery from a crash the previous day, saying, “It’s a nice boost for the team.”
Looking ahead to the next stage, Niermann acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, especially with the Pico del Buitre climb. He noted, “Tomorrow will be another test for our riders. Of course, we already had a tough stage two days ago. The final climb will be tough. Fortunately, this is familiar territory for Primoz, who finished sixth there in 2019.”
The results of the fifth stage saw Kaden Groves of Alpecin-Deceuninck taking the win, with Filippo Ganna of INEOS Grenadiers and Dries Van Gestel of TotalEnergies following closely behind. Team Jumbo-Visma’s Jonas Vingegaard finished in 37th place, Attila Valter in 53rd place, Jan Tratnik in 61st place, and Primož Roglič in 62nd place.
In the overall rankings, Remco Evenepoel of Soudal – Quick Step remains in first place, followed by Enric Mas of Movistar Team and Lenny Martinez of Groupama – FDJ. Jonas Vingegaard is currently in fourth place overall, while Primož Roglič is in seventh place.
The Vuelta a España continues with more challenges ahead for Team Jumbo-Visma as they strive for success in the race.
