Frederik Frison Impresses Again with 4th Place Finish at Grueling Gent-Wevelgem Race

Lotto Dstny’s Frederik Frison has once again shown his exceptional form by finishing in 4th place at the historic Gent-Wevelgem race. After a strong 4th place finish at the Brugge-De Panne Classic last Wednesday, the 30-year-old Belgian displayed his impressive shape in the grueling 85th edition of Gent-Wevelgem, which was characterized by pouring rain and a challenging 260-kilometer route through Flanders Fields.

The race took a decisive turn on the second ascent of the Kemmelberg, where the duo of Van Aert and Laporte broke away. Despite the relentless efforts of Caleb Ewan and Florian Vermeersch, they were unable to close the gap on the cobbles. The two Jumbo-Visma teammates eventually secured a one-two finish in Wevelgem. In the pursuit, Lotto Dstny played a prominent role with three riders, including Brent Van Moer, Florian Vermeersch, and Frederik Frison, who made it to the final. Frison joined the decisive move for 3rd place but narrowly missed the podium, sprinting to an impressive 4th place. Despite not making the podium, Frison expressed pride in his performance in the challenging Gent-Wevelgem race.

“Most of all, I’m proud of this fourth place in a big Classic like Gent-Wevelgem. In the final, I used a technical part to attack. The cooperation was ideal and that way we could battle for third. A fourth place might leave a bit of a sour taste, but I can’t really complain about the top shape I am in after an earlier fourth at Brugge-De Panne Classic on Wednesday. It wasn’t an easy task to stay warm today, but luckily the fast racing helped,” said Frison with a smile. “With several mechanical issues for amongst others Arnaud De Lie, we also had our share of bad luck today, but once again we made an impact on the race today.”

Florian Vermeersch, another impressive performer, also faced adversity but fought back to play a crucial role in the final of Gent-Wevelgem. “Despite the bad weather, I felt really good, and this performance is another confirmation of my good form. After the first climb of the Kemmelberg, I was in the front, but due to a mechanical issue, I was forced to change bikes. I thought my race was over, but luckily I was able to make my way back. In the final, I wanted to reward my good race with a podium spot. Unfortunately, I missed the right move, but I am really proud of Frederik Frison. I think everyone wished him a podium place, but nevertheless, we can look back on another solid team effort,” concluded Florian Vermeersch.
