Lotto Soudal rider Jasper De Buyst has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the team until the end of 2024. De Buyst, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, has been with the team for seven years and will now be part of the team for ten seasons. During his time at Lotto Soudal, De Buyst has played a crucial role in the sprint train, supporting lead-out rider Caleb Ewan. He has also had his own successes, claiming victories at races like Binche-Chimay-Binche and stages at the Tour of Denmark and Tour de Wallonie.
De Buyst expressed his happiness about the contract extension, saying, “This contract extension is a sign of mutual trust and respect and of course I am very happy with that. At the end of this new contract, I will have been riding at the team for ten seasons, which is rather an exception in cycling. Lotto Soudal has become a real home and even though I am still 28, it feels like I am already part of the most experienced riders within the team.”
General Manager John Lelangue is also pleased with De Buyst’s continued presence on the team, stating, “Jasper has been part of Lotto Soudal for seven years now and it was a priority to keep him on board. As one of the main guys in Caleb’s sprint train, Jasper has contributed to many victories and I am sure there are many more to follow in the coming years.”
Looking ahead to the future, De Buyst remains committed to supporting the team’s sprinters but is also eager to pursue his own personal goals. He said, “Of course, I will still give my all at the service of our sprinters the coming years. I’ve put aside my personal ambitions for several years now so it will be something of a test to try and go for some own results. In any case, it would be nice to be able to do a bit of both. Besides, at 28 I’m already considered as a road captain within the team, so I definitely feel like passing on my experience to the younger generation.”
