Woods and Fuglsang Work Together in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Securing Top Finishes
Israel – Premier Tech showcased their strength in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race, utilizing the talents of climbers Michael Woods and Jakob Fuglsang. The team had two strong contenders, including Fuglsang, who won the race in 2019.
Despite a calm start, the race took a turn when a serious crash occurred with 60 kilometers remaining. Omer Goldstein and Daryl Impey were involved, forcing Impey to withdraw from the race. Fortunately, Goldstein and Impey did not sustain serious injuries.
Woods and Fuglsang emerged as key forces in the race, with their attacks and acceleration setting them apart from the competition. However, Woods’ attempt on Roche aux Faucons was hindered by strong headwinds.
In the end, a group of twelve riders sprinted to the finish, with the Canadian-Danish tandem launching their sprint too early. Woods finished in tenth place, while Fuglsang took thirteenth place.
Reflecting on the race, Woods expressed slight disappointment due to the strong winds impacting his ideal race scenario. However, he was pleased with his performance and hopes to maintain his form for the rest of the season.
Fuglsang acknowledged that the race was a positive step forward for him and the team, despite desiring better results. He felt confident in his performance and looks forward to upcoming races.
The Liège-Bastogne-Liège race showcased the collaborative efforts of Woods and Fuglsang, highlighting their potential for future successes.
