Paddy Bevin Claims Victory in Tour de Romandie Sprint

Israel – Premier Tech rider Paddy Bevin emerged triumphant in a thrilling sprint finish in Valbroye during stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie.

“I knew this was a stage where I could be there at the finish and I really wanted to win this sprint. What a day,” Bevin said with a big smile after crossing the line.

Bevin’s win came after a day of strategic planning by the IPT team, with Krists Neilands aiming for an early breakaway. Neilands showcased his strength by winning the King of the Mountains sprint and managed to distance the peloton, forming a breakaway group with two other riders.

“For a long time, I actually thought they would stay away,” Bevin explained. “I know how strong Krists is right now and I was happy to see him get up the road. He’s such a good teammate and he has done so much work for us. It’s great to see him in the KOM jersey now.”

As the race approached the final 25 km, the peloton increased the pace and eventually caught up with the breakaway on the penultimate climb. Bevin had studied the final section of the race carefully and knew exactly how to approach the sprint finish. Launching his sprint with precision, Bevin left his competitors in the dust and secured the win.

“All day long I was thinking about that last corner. It was all about that last corner,” Bevin said. “Today, it really worked out perfectly. It’s amazing.”

This victory marks Bevin’s third win in just two weeks, following his stage 7 win and overall classification title in the Tour of Turkey earlier this month. Additionally, it is Israel – Premier Tech’s first WorldTour win of the season.

In the general classification, Bevin is currently placed second overall, just 14 seconds behind the race leader Rohan Dennis of Jumbo-Visma. The focus now shifts to the queen stage of the Tour de Romandie on Saturday.
