Mike Woods Finishes Fourth at La Flèche Wallonne
Canadian cyclist Mike Woods put in a strong performance at La Flèche Wallonne, finishing in fourth place after a well-executed team effort.
Woods expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I was really pleased with today. I gave it my all, and I had an exceptional lead out from Simon, and just really great teamwork all day. All the guys were great, so I can’t complain. Obviously it’s nicer to finish higher up the results sheet, but fourth is sill great for me. Especially after the tough season I had last year, this is the best result I’ve had since 2021. I’m just really pleased to be moving in the right direction, and to be back at the front of the race, and especially as I was at the front of the race, and I went for it, so I’m proud of that.”
The peloton kept the breakaway group in check throughout the race, and despite their efforts, the breakaway was caught before the final climb. Woods was well supported by his teammates, with Simon Clarke delivering him to a perfect position at the foot of the climb.
Woods fought hard on the steep slopes of the climb, but ultimately finished three seconds behind the podium places. Despite this, Sports Director Sam Bewley commended the team’s performance, saying, “The depth and collective strength of our team really showed today, and we put Woods in a perfect position, and he did a really good climb.”
Looking ahead to Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday, the team is optimistic about their chances based on their strong performance at La Flèche Wallonne.
