Israeli National Team at Tour de l’Avenir
Nine young riders from the Israel – Premier Tech Academy will be embarking on a challenging journey at the Tour de l’Avenir, known as the “Tour de France for the U-23s.” Led by Aviad Izrael, the Sports Director of the Israeli National team, the riders will be racing against some of the best young talents in the world, including familiar teammates from Australia, Canada, and the USA.
This is a significant milestone for Israeli cycling, with the team’s participation in the race serving as an inspiration for the next generation of riders in Israel. Izrael hopes that young riders aged 15 to 17 will see this as a guiding star for their future in the sport.
The race is expected to be dominated by climbs, with only one stage ending in a sprint. Israeli sprinter Oded Kogut and Canadian Riley Pickrell are pinning their hopes on this stage for a victory. The team aims to be highly active in every stage, with Kogut emphasizing the importance of reaching this milestone.
One of the standout riders in the race is 21-year-old climbing prodigy Matthew Riccitello, who is expected to be one of Team USA’s leaders. Riccitello is confident in his abilities and has his sights set on the overall title. He is eager to compete in the race after having to leave prematurely last year.
The Israeli National team roster for the Tour de l’Avenir includes Nadav Raisberg, Jonathan Abudraham, Rotem Tene, Oded Kogut, Imry Faingezicht, and Aviv Bental. Riley Pickrell represents Team Canada, and Alastair Mackellar represents Team Australia.
