Vingegaard stays out of trouble and retains the leader’s jersey in Paris-Nice
# Vingegaard Maintains Yellow Jersey Amidst Challenging Terrain at Paris-Nice
During the sixth stage of the renowned Paris-Nice cycling race, Jonas Vingegaard successfully navigated a demanding course marked by four categorised climbs, retaining his lead in the general classification. The stage featured an early breakaway of four riders who initially established a two-minute advantage. However, Team Visma | Lease a Bike played a pivotal role in reeling them back in, revitalizing the competition for stage victory.
As the race progressed to the final ascent, Daniel Felipe Martínez launched a strong attack. Nonetheless, Vingegaard demonstrated his resilience and managed to hold off the challenge. Later, Harold Tejada broke away from the pack, narrowly staying ahead of Vingegaard and his pursuers. Reflecting on the day’s challenges, Vingegaard noted, “It was another tough day. Fortunately, we came through it unscathed and are another day closer to Nice.”
When asked about the stage’s concluding descent, Vingegaard expressed his reservations: “I’m not a fan of there being a descent right before the finish. You can take a lot of risks by going downhill at full speed, but I’d rather keep everything intact.” With just two stages remaining, Vingegaard maintains a significant lead of more than three minutes over his nearest rival.
While he acknowledged the allure of securing another stage victory, Vingegaard emphasized his primary goal: “Of course it would be great if I could win another stage, but the most important thing is to take the yellow jersey home.”
